picnic for breakfast

When we first moved to this house, I started having a picnic breakfast with Easton every couple of months. I make muffins and put the tablecloth on the floor and we watch a cartoon while we eat. This is the first time Keagan has joined us on the floor and she loved it. It was messy, but fun. (I am very grateful for my vacuum...)

It has become evident....

that we have entered the clumsy stage of toddlerhood.
When she tries to get going too fast -- down she comes.
black eye, bump on the nose, fat lip....
This was two days after the incidents--so luckily the swelling and coloring has diminished a bit.
but, she sure looks cute in her Hawaiian dress from Grandma and Buddy.

party time, party time...

We started the festivities yesterday and went to dinner for Easton's birthday, which is a treat because usually Parker isn't even home from work when we eat dinner, so we took full advantage of it--especially me!

I was doing this face behind the camera to try and get him to smile and he decided to copy me.
At dinner a balloon guy came and made Easton a Batman.
the girls singing to him--he was so excited and told them 'thank you' after, which, of course, got a whole lot of 'he is so cute!'
opening some presents at Grandma and Buddy's
an updated family picture--except the kids are being weird for it--but at least Parker and I look good, right?
Easton wanted a superhero party this year and we invited all his little boy cousins--he surprisingly has 4 (that are in town--2 more outside)! This was his outfit.
Gray came decked out as Dash.
Aidan came as Spiderman.
I am so glad these were not noisy!
The party was a little crazy--6 little boys ages 4 and under--but it was fun. Easton had a blast and I am glad I did it. I only did an hour and during the party I kept thinking, "Maybe an hour was too long..." but it all worked out.
Poor Keagan needed some TLC after the party. She kept getting mowed over by the boys and with her just starting to walk, that was hard on her. She was not happy and just wanted Mom--except Mom was trying to entertain the boys, but thankfully Grandma and Aunt Amy were here to help.
All in all, it was a good day--a crazy, good day.

Easton is 3!

(LOTS of pictures)
As I look out the window and see the snow falling it takes me back to three years ago when the snow was falling after we welcomed this little guy into the world.
In the hospital.
He was such a perfect little guy, three weeks early (scared me to death) but he came healthy and beautiful.
in the jaundice bed at home
after his blessing--2 and a half months
9 months
I had these done by a lady from our neighborhood and I love them. They show his personality so well. I love the picture above--he is still madly in love with his blanket.
15 months
(I have never really thought that Easton and Keagan looked alike, but I can see so much of her is this picture.)
17 months
right before his world gets turned upside down with a new sister.
almost 19 months
I guess it didn't get turned too much upside down.

It was really quite funny as I was looking through pictures for this post. I have a million (not really a million-but close) pictures of Easton and I swear one packet looked all the same--probably done in a two day time period. He is my first--I guess that is all I can say.
(Sorry to Keagan...I don't have that many of you.)

Stats

Easton--29.1 lbs. (25th %)
Keagan--21.54 lbs. (22nd %)
18.4 inches (68th %)
Took the kids in today for checkups and they are doing great.
True to Keagan's nature, she glared at the doctor the whole time.
True to Easton's nature, he decided he was a doctor for the rest of the day and kept wanting to listen to my heart and check my eyes and ears.
They did an eye checkup on Easton--first time--and he was so funny. The nurse came into the room to review the shapes before she took him to test him. The shapes were a square, a house, an apple and a circle. While she was testing him, he would say the square, and then the apple he whispered to me, "It looks like something you eat." And the circle he whispered to me, "It is an orange." He passed.

the goings on at our place...

*Today I took the kids to the library for story time and it was so nice. We had never been before and I would recommend it to anyone who is feeling the weight of winter on their shoulders. Easton is at such a fun age with stories and did really well. Keagan did pretty good, but got a little restless towards the end.
*Then after naps we went to the park and it was a little chilly, but we needed some outside time. I was pushing them on the swings, Keagie in the baby ones and Easton decided he wanted to be a big boy and be in the swing with no back. This was a huge surprise--especially since Easton can be very cautious. And then he started pumping! I didn't even know he knew how to do that!! What a brilliant kid. :) He looked so small in the big boy swing, pumping his legs, especially since his little bottom barely fits in the swing (due in part to no more diapers!!!!!!!!).
*Keagan decided a couple of days ago that she was finally ready to get up and go. She still crawls if she needs to go fast, but has started toddling around our house. It is so cute and I love watching her figure it out. Yes, she is 16 months. Slow, but better than her brother and her mother for that matter.... and look at us, we are pros at walking now! :)

the joys of hygiene

Keagan likes to bite -- not other people -- only my finger when I tried to brush her teeth with the little finger brush I had. Hence--a new pretty, pink toothbrush. What a big girl.
She was so excited and had to hold it the entire store trip and once we got home she had so much fun brushing her teeth--all by herself. (I don't let her do that when it is actually time to brush, otherwise her little teeth (all eleven of them!) wouldn't get clean.)

I got Easton a new one too. (that is water on his shirt, don't worry.)
I love this picture.

The joys of potty-training....

Easton: Mom, can you change me? (still wearing diapers)

Me: (while changing his diaper) If you go on the potty, I won't need to change you. Big boys go on the potty. Mommy and Daddy go on the potty.

Easton: Mom, I'm so proud of you!

Thank you, Easton, for being proud of me--even if it is for just being a 'big girl.'

Toddler Updates

I left the room for two minutes and came back to find this....
Easton likes to pull the cushions off the chairs and pretend he is the king (I have no idea where he came up with it) and Keagan loves it because then the chair is just the right height for her to climb on it.
I am not quite sure how Keagan got her shirt halfway off--probably with help from Easton.

I gave Keagan her first haircut last week. She was getting 'mullety'. Her hair reached all the way to her shoulders, but was thin at the bottom because it was her baby hair. While she was in the tub, I grabbed the bottom and chopped it. It was shorter than I wanted, but it looks cute.

This is Keagan's new favorite seat in the house. She climbs up and sits there like she is queen of the house.--she kind of is!

Yes, the bangs are still long, but I usually have a little elastic or clip in to keep them back--just not right before bed.

Happy Birthday Parker!

Happy birthday to Parker!! The big 3*0!
Thanks for being a great husband and daddy!
We love you!

Easton helping Daddy blow out his candles from his cake last night.
We surprised Parker at his office with some balloons. I asked Easton if we should take a Superman balloon to Daddy today and he said, "No." I asked him why and he told me, "Daddy wants a Star Wars balloon." So we got a Darth Vadar balloon instead.

Snow, snow, we love the snow!

So we have had snow for weeks, but I finally braved it yesterday with the kids. Mostly it was because I kept hoping for Parker to be home to stay indoors with Keagan, because I had forgotten that my sis-in-law had given me this snowsuit for Keagan. I am glad I remembered, because she had so much fun playing with us.
Before we braved the cold. Don't they look excited?
I pulled the kids around on the sled for a while and then I ran in to get my camera and came out to find Easton pulling his little sister.
They didn't get too far...
My little guy
My sweet, baby doll
Easton was trying to feed Keagan the snow.
I hope they will be good buddies when they get older!

Am I Ready?

Many, many years ago a small red-head didn't walk until she was 17 months.

A little over a year ago, a little blond boy didn't walk until he was 19 months.

Another little red-head is 15 months. Am I ready for her to be walking? (Not when I see the toddlers running in the halls and up and down the aisles at church)

With Easton, I honestly didn't mind him walking late. People probably thought I was crazy to not be worried that he wasn't walking yet. I knew he could do it if he wanted to, but he just wasn't ready. (my kids tend to be very cautious) He was never a big baby, so carrying him when I needed to wasn't a problem (even when I was 8 months pregnant) and he crawled around the house and got into anything on his level anyway. And I knew I was a late walker, so that added to my patience.

Keagan is a tiny bit more brave than her big brother, not much, but a little. Am I ready for her to be climbing, walking, running, and everything that comes with that? I don't know yet--will get back to you....... But, this is a cute video, so enjoy!
